About the Business

Initially, the business was driven quite accidentally by our passion for collecting old bottles, bisque dolls, advertising pot lids, clay pipes, perfume bottles etc.

We visited old Victorian dumps, digging up to eight feet deep to unearth these treasures… for free!! Then, by attending Antiques Fairs, we soon developed other tastes & had to resort to selling surplus stock which was building up fast.

After renting a table top space in a small Centre we soon graduated into renting a complete room. Obviously shelving & furniture was required to display the collectables & pine furniture seemed to compliment our goods.

On making weekly checks on items sold we discovered the small items all over the floor meaning more & more furniture was needed, hence our specialisation in old pine.

Margaret prepared the stock, whilst Geoff repaired in his spare time due to his professional work. After taking early retirement Geoff joined Margaret full time & now one of our sons, Andrew, is taking an active part having been brought up ‘dealing’ at the early age of 8 at Bottle Fairs.

Apart from old pine we also specialise in Satin Walnut, advertising Items (tins, showcards, bottles, enamel signs etc.) dolls, & vanity Items (compacts, hat pins & vintage costume jewellery). Many other items are also available which are obtained through house clearances.

All of the old pine is hand stripped to avoid stressing the wood, tastefully restored if required, sanded, waxed & polished to a high standard. The Barn is well stocked & worth a visit for the trade buyer. It is open by appointment only and we would recommend anyone wishing to visit to telephone prior to travelling. Some of our stock is for sale at stands in the Trinity Centre & Great Expectations in East Street, Horncastle.
