At twenty years of age Ithen entered a career in the Oil Industry with Vetco Gray as an Installation and Production Engineer specialising in Wellheads, Completions and Entire Shutdown Systems, later pioneering the SMS systems for National Oil Well.

Ben Goodbrey first established Bed Bazaar in 1984, at the tender age of 16. After having a difficult time at school as a result of his dyslexia, Ben was inspired to start an antique bed business byhis uncle, David Abbott, an established dealer in antique bedsteads. Also, both Ben's parents and sister are antique dealers. In its early days, Bed Bazaar was run from Mr Goodbrey's home, with a workshop measuring 6' x 12' and an old bureau as an office.
