Predominantly a trade supplier we also sell to the general public through our online shop & variousantique markets and fairs around the country. We are a mother and daughter team, the idea behind the company came from our own needs to furnish our houses which we were renovating, we were always on the look out for unusual vintage and antiquefurniture and furnishings. Many of the items we purchased required a little work, a little TLC, this sparked an idea to provide this service and launch a business.

The business was founded in the late 70's by husband and wife team Steve and Caroline Groves and has since gone from strength to strength. The name derives both from Steve's ancestoral connectionswith Thomas Hardy himself and the area in which we are situated, deep in the historic Dorset countryside. Nearby are many tourist attractions such as the famous Cerne Giant and the beautiful coastline. Our main showroom and workshop are in Melbury Osmond.
This family business was started by Simon's father in 1987 in the City of Bath where they traded for 10 years before relocating to the quintessential village of Freshford some 5 miles south of city.Simon then joined his father in 1997 where they renamed the business Freshfords Fine Antiques, When Simon's father retired in 2005 the business moved to its current location nearby, operating from a custom built gallery where viewing is by appointment only.
